This very limited capacity. This class will teach our students and adults the basics of poultry care. Some, like quail, do not make noise and can be kept in an urban setting. Butchering or processing of poultry will be done during this class. Please read below.

About the event

Learn how to raise and butcher chickens for meat and eggs. This class will cover how to humanely dispatch, feather, and clean fowl for food. Learn what to look for in a healthy bird and what to avoid. $28 per family. This covers one live chicken to butcher OR two live chicks and instruction. This class is recommended for mature students and adults. The participants should have a firm healthy grasp on death and animals raised for meat. The student will have the opportunity to dispatch their own bird but this is not mandatory. Student will be expected to assist in some aspect of the processing commensurate with their confront level. Wear comfortable grubby clothing that can get dirty. Bring a cooler, bag of ice and a gallon sized ziplock bag or container for the meat. For those opting for chicks, it is the responsibility of the parent for the care and housing of the birds.
